Technical Director of Netsight, Matt Hamilton, has been elected to the Plone Foundation board. Matt was voted onto the board of seven by members of the Plone Foundation, at the annual Plone conference held in Washington DC earlier this month.

The Plone Foundation was formed in May 2004 to serve as a supporting organisation for Plone. It acts as a trust to hold and protect the intellectual property of Plone, and as the official spokesbody of Plone to the media.

Matt served on the inaugural board, and now re-elected his main aim is to initiate and drive marketing efforts in order to clarify and promote the advantages of Open Source Software and Plone to larger organisations worldwide. Matt has always been a very vocal Open Source advocate, speaking at various Open Source and Plone events, and regularly acting as a consultant on large commercial Open Source CMS deployments.

Matt will be speaking this year at the IMS conference in London between 2nd-4th December. By presenting Plone side-by-side with the big proprietary systems, which are being viewed by an increasing number of organisations as unnecessarily overweight and expensive, he is aiming to considerably raise the profile of Open Source Software to large organisations throughout the UK and Europe.
