UoB Accommodation Office Flies Through Busiest Day
Over the past 2 years Netsight has worked with University of Bristol Information Services on a variety of projects.
One of these projects has been concerned with optimising the performance of the Accommodation Office's private rented accommodation database. In previous years the system has slowed very seriously during busy periods, leaving users dissatisfied.
Netsight were commissioned as consultants, and helped to implement a solution that was entirely software-based and so required no new hardware, thus keeping costs down.
This year users noticed no degradation in performance during the annual peak time - the busiest day of the year occurs when information about private sector rented accommodation for the next academic year is released to 12000 students.
In the 24 hour period from 10am on 5th February the webserver dealt with about 60,000 database queries.
