Client

The Marine Stewardship Council is the world's leading certification program for sustainable seafood. With partners around the world, the MSC implements standards for sustainable fishing and seafood traceability - ensuring that MSC-labelled seafood comes from, and can be traced back to, a sustainable fishery.

Challenge

In 2007 the MSC had a public website developed using Plone, with content in English only, and a few stand-alone microsites in other languages. As the sites grew, with 10 content editors in regional offices around the world, the management of the sites became problematic. Support processes were poor, and the microsites diverged and became off-message.

Solution

Netsight were appointed to review the site, and improve multilingual capabilities whilst creating a manageable workflow process.

We audited and overhauled the site, and implemented a customised multilingual CMS toolkit based on LinguaPlone. This gives content editors the ability to translate an item of English content into any of the designated languages whilst retaining the overall structure and hierarchy of the site, and adhering to workflow and permissions protocols.

This involved creating a number of custom extensions to LinguaPlone, including implementing a custom management dashboard to oversee translation status (see screenshot below). We provided our unique “TranslateInPlace” tool to assist with rapid content translations.

We also integrated a custom HTML newsletter system with subscription management and integration with the existing CRM database.

On top of this, we performed a number of interface and usability enhancements, and optimised performance in a number of areas. A comprehensive support contract provides development resources whenever they are needed.
