Intranets for multinational company dedicated to sharing business-critical information

Belron International is the world’s largest vehicle glass repair and replacement company, owning some of the best known brands in the industry including Autoglass in the UK, Carglass in most of Europe, O’Brien in Australia and Safelite in the United States. Belron employs more than 24,000 people working in 35 countries worldwide, replacing a piece of glass or repairing a windscreen somewhere in the world every three seconds.
When commissioning Netsight in 2007 to build a global intranet system for the company, the main goal of the Belron International office (based in the UK) was to facilitate effective dissemination and sharing of business-critical information across its various global units and functions. This initial development project for Belron International had a main build duration of approximately six months, during which Netsight liaised closely with the company’s key stakeholders as well as Belron’s appointed design and communication agency to produce a new user interface and information architecture.

After this initial development period, Netsight continued to work with the Belron International head office as well as other national offices to extend the functionality of the intranet systems in ways meeting both international and local needs.  Some of this further development included: social media features (microblogging, forums, and blogs); mobile interface designed for iPhone, Android and Blackberry phones; automated new alerts; team workspaces, with granular access control and a custom workflow; multilingual content management to support versions of the intranet in English, French, German, Spanish, and Flemish; a large repository of previous radio and TV advertising material, providing a world-wide overview of advertising activity within the business; enhanced search modules making it easy for users to find the information they are looking for within different sections of the site; custom activity reports and analytics.

In 2011 Netsight liaised closely with the Belron project team to plan and deliver a major upgrade of the intranet to the latest version of its base content management system (Plone 4) and to implement many new features and capabilities provided by intraCORE (Netsight’s suite of modules enabling more powerful interactivity, with improved user interface). More recently, Netsight has worked closely with Belron International staff to introduce Single Sign-On functionality (coordinated with Google Apps) and secure automated cloud-storage for video and large files.

Over the years Netsight has worked to build and continuously improve an indispensable management tool, in constant use across business units in the UK and Europe. The system gives managers and staff within the business the power to communicate and share information effectively. By aggregating and organising large volumes of vital data, the intranet system assists with the day-to-day running of business within a large multinational company.

Netsight provides dedicated managed hosting and ongoing maintenance and 24/7 support for the live and staging Belron intranets, hosted within its ISO 27001 certified data centre.
